More and more we learn that more important than what is paid in cash or other transfers of valuables (which is generally called ‘corruption’), it is important to recognize as ‘corruption’ the misuse of public and private power expressed in unjustifiable decisions which cost society and citizens unbelievable pains: wrong alliances in politics; wrong investments made too late or too early, at the wrong place and/or the wrong moment in time; inappropriate appointment of civil servants, or distorted election of unqualified or untrustworthy representatives; decisions to go to war; less or no respect for human rights. In short: do something for me to which I am not entitled and I will reciprocate, if not now, later.
